My evening bike ride
It’s been an unseasonably warm fall (of that’s ending soon) here so yesterday instead of going to the gym honey and I decided to go for a bike ride. We had to make a couple of stops on the way home so by the time we were ready to go it was almost dark so we were just going to go around the block, approximately 2 miles of wooded areas and fields. I was cruising down a hill and knew I was going to have to turn onto our road shortly (it was dark by them and no street lights) so I began slowing down (new bikes I found out don’t stop you they only help to slow you down) when I hear a rustling in the woods and knew immediately it was deer. I grab the brakes harder and about 20 feet in front of my two rather large deer fly out of the woods (the second one was closer to me by the time it came out of the woods) and they were going so fast that the second one lost its footing on the other side of the road when it comes to a slight downward spot. My honey was farther behind me and he thought I was as good as trampled. Needless to say we wont’ be taking any more evening bike rides. It just goes to show that you don’t need to be driving to hit or be hit by a deer.
Scary! Never thought about the danger of being hit by a deer while riding a bike. Glad you are OK. The habitat around here is becoming so small for the deer that we are seeing them at all hours of the day not just dawn and dusk as usual.
Have a good week and maybe get one of those deer whistling things and attach it to your bike. I know they make them for cars.
It sounds beautiful out at your place! I know it was probably scary about hitting a deer, but it still sounds like a beautiful ride!
