16 secrets restaurant industry doesn’t want you to know

Was looking up food poisoning (I think I got some Thursday at a restaurant I ate at) and found this interesting article…

My Granddaughter may have Cystic Fibrosis and mindless ramblings

My daughter started taking my granddaughter (who is 4) to a new doctor when she moved.  The previous doctor had been treating her for asthma. This new doctor says she has no signs of asthma but wants to test her for CF.  The first sweat test comes back borderline so they have another test schedule.  After looking this up online it would explain her always being congested, sinus infections and her insatiable appetite.  This little girl eats and eats and is not growing very fast.  I’m hoping she comes up borderline again since the doctor told my daughter to cut out dairy for a month to see what happens and that seems to have helped her being congested and sleeping at night.  This is not something she needs as her son (who is 5) has Asperger’s Syndrome (high functiong autisim) and is considered a special needs child.  They both are however, very intelligent and energetic.

On a lighter note, the weather here S****!  Come out of the gym at 6:00 pm yesterday and it’s freezing rain and everything is icey and slushy.  It takes a 45 mintues to get to the restaurant when it usually takes us 20 or less.  Come out the restaurant to go to the bowling alley and it’s raining.  An hour later it’s snowing.  Leave the bowling alley around 11 pm and it’s doing I don’t know what.  It’s an hour drive home and half way there we get into snow again.  Get into town about 5 miles from home and it hasn’t done anything there all night and it’s 34 degrees.  Get up this morning and there’s snow.  Our hour drive to work was almost an hour and a half.  I HATE WINTER!!

They got a new elliptical at the gym and it has more of a natural stride and I did 3 miles in 30 minutes yesterday.  I can’t even do that on a treadmill or the other ellipticals.  So now I can do a different type of cardio every day for 5 days with the treadmill, arc trainer, 3 different styles of ellpticals and spinning.  I ordered a mini-stepper so I can do something when I find time to watch TV cuz I hate just sitting there.  I can’t sit still, except for The Biggest Loser, Desperate Housewives, and Drag Racing.  My fiance has to ask if I can sit and watch something with him if he wants to get cuddly.

Okay the boss finally brought something out for me to do.  Have a great day everyone.

Random stuff - just bored at work.

My honey had a 9:15 hockey game last night so after the gym we had to have a quick, easy dinner since home is an hour drive.  We decided on McDonalds.  I got the Classic Grilled Chicken Sandwich and a side salad with the low fat vinaigrette.  Honey got a Double Cheeseburger Meal.  They have nutritional information on a flyer so I took one to read while eating.  I was reading off numbers of various food items but not telling him what he was eating had.  When I finished he just kept looking at it and finally decided to look to see what he was eating.  He then says “great, now you got me conscience about this sh**.”  I say “Good, and you should be.”   I was very proud of him as he usually gets 2 double cheeseburgers but since he was gonna be playing hockey he needed somthing “light”.  He doesn’t eat salads etc so that is considered light to him.  He even bought 4 cases of water over the weekend so he can try to start drinking more water at work.  I told him how I lost weight just by upping my water intake a couple of years ago.

I need to stay vigilant on everything.  I’ve been slacking since my father passed away in October.  I did however do 40 minutes on my treadmill Saturday instead of cleaning the house so the hous is still a mess but I got 40 minutes in.  Was gonna clean on Sunday but we spent most of the afternoon grocery shopping then the NHL Allstar game was on so had to watch that.  Yesterday I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and 30 on the treadmill at the gym.  I got a new heartrate monitor watch for Xmas and I absolutely love it.  I program it with my birthday, gender and weight.  To finish programming it you take your heart rate when you awake (naturally, not by an alarm) and that sets your resting rate.  When you begin your workout you start the stopwatch and after you get your heartrate up you take a reading.  When you cool down you take another reading.  I take my more than that as I do HIIT so I bring it up and down a lot.  When you take a reading it shows you the percent of max you’re working at and calories burned.  When you finish your workout and stop the stopwatch it will show you total calorie burn.   I say it’s more accurate because it’s based upon how hard you are actually working so it pushes me to work more to get and keep my percent of max up over 65%.

I finished rearranging the bedroom upstairs so I can do my DVDs up there.  I just have to get them all together now.  I also still need to get a step but that’s not a biggie to start my carido kickboxing DVD and my Firm Resistance Band DVD.

Okay, I’ve lost my train of thought.  Something distracted me and I have no idea what so I will end this now.  Take care anyone who has suffered through this and have a great week.

I need suggestions

Okay this has nothing at all to do with weight loss, etc.  I need to get a new vaccum and have no idea what to get.  The one I have now just doesn’t cut it.  I need something that is relatively inexpensive (under $200) and picks up cat hair and small wood chips.  With 4 cats and a wood burning stove we have lots of hair and small wood chips.  I have a Eureka “The Boss” (yellow, lite weight) and it just doesn’t pick up the hair and wood like I want.  If anyone has cats/dogs and wood etc that they have to vaccum up what do you use and do you like?  My hand held Dirt Devil does great on the furniture but I need something for the rugs in the living room and dining room.  Thanks bunches.  I know I  can count on my Buddy Slims to give me great suggestions.

I finally watched The Biggest Loser finale and other stuff

I got home late Tuesday nite so I decided to wait until Thursday to watch the Biggest Loser final (we recorded it on TiVo, gotta love it).  Hey, I cheated on Tuesday and went to the end to see who won but I still watched it last nite anyhow.  I actually sort of cried at beginng but didn’t let my honey see me.  Honey has been watching most of them with me and tonite he watched with me.  I think watching what everyone has done, especially the bigger men, has put some thoughts into his head and got him thinking.  Almost 2 years ago he was right around 300 lbs when we joined the gym.  Now is roughly 267-269 and since he’s such  a picky eater his eating habits are not quite that great but he does try.  He switched from regular pop to diet, he’ll only drink diet squirt or diet sierra mist.  But anyways, he did something that was kinda surprising to me.  When we were done watching  there’s an option to keep the show or delete it.  I have been deleting the shows after I watch them to keep space open for other stuff to record.  When I told him to delete he said “no, keep it.”  I asked why and he says “for inspiration”.  WHAT!!?? I just said okay and left it there.  If this is what he needs then we’ll keep it.  After seeing these guys that went close to and over 400 lbs look the way they do now he sees that it can be done.  I keep telling him I’m gonna send him to Jullian.  I have on out little board on the refrigerator in big letters “JILLIAN IS WATCHING”.  I also have something like “do you really need it” written on there to and something else that I can’t remember at the moment.  It makes you sort of stop and think before you open the refrigerator. Over the next week I might see if he’ll let me make him up  a training schedule.  He already has one but I think mine will be better.  I tell him he needs to stop using some of the weight machines and switch to free weights.  He would have much better results using those.  I know because I can’t use some of the machines because I don’t feel that I get as much out of them as I do using free weights.  After the new year and we get the house situated, I’m making one of the bedrooms into my workout room for doing DVDs, we have to get back into our old routine and kicking some major butt.  I would like to take some sort of Kempo Karate or Madarin Kung Fu classes but I am so so so very shy that I could have a panic attack.  That’s why I’m getting cardio kickboxing DVDs.  We’ve been talking about getting a punching bag but have no where to put it.  I have lots and lots of built up aggression that I could have field day on a punching bag.  I will have to discuss putting one in the garage.  Okay, I have rambled enough.  Thanks for reading my rumblings.  Have a holiday everyone.

Glad I have an apple and granola bar

The weather outside is frightful (Bette Jo, you’re a couple of hours away from me so you know what I’m talking about) but my office is warm and delightful.  Snow, I hate it.  It’s coming down here and the wind is blowing on top that.  I’m gonna let honey decide if we go the gym for an hour for traffic to hopefully thin out since it’s only a couple of blocks from here or if we sit in traffic.  I think either way it’s gonna be an hour and a half drive home.  It’s ususally almost an hour but this weather is not nice.  I have an apple and granola bar so if we get really stuck in traffic I won’t starve.  It just started snowing when we left at 7 o’clock this morning and some dumbass came flying up this huge hill and kissed a tree on the other side of the road. They were okay.  Ususally it’s the other way around and they come flying down the hill which has some nice curves in it and kiss the tree on the other side of the road.  We almost got hit head on by a truck that came down too fast and he turned the wheel and kissed the tree.  He was alright luckily.   There was also a real bad 5 car accident on our way in this morning but not weather related.  When we were driving by it they had someone in the really wrecked car and I mean really wrecked car covered up with a blanket.  Was trying not freak out.  I had my daughter watch the noon news and thankfully no died but was airlifted to the hospital.  Out of 5 cars only 2 people were injured.   I will be a nervous wreck on the home and I’m not even driving.  Well, boss finally brought something out for me to do YEAH!!!  Back to work it is.  Have a great day and stay warm.

I need to learn how to walk without falling down

I have got to the most uncoordinated person on this planet.  I don’t know of anyone else that can just fall while walking like I do.  I haven’t done it in a while which is a miracle for me.  Some would say “so don’t wear such high shoes” I don’t wear heels and I can lose my footing walking in sneakers, I did while walking home from the store one day and luckily didn’t break any of the eggs I had.  This morning I’m walking through the mall to the food court to get breakfast, it was before 9 so nothing was open yet and there really wasn’t anybody in there (thank god).  I’m wearing my clogs that are kinda like platform type shoes but I’ve had them for 4 years so it’s not like I’m not adept (right word?) at walking in them.  They are my most comfortable pair of shoes to walk in.  I rounding a corner by the escalator when my left ankle just turns or does something and down I go.  Land hard on my right knee (my knees are messed up to begin with from jumping and falling out of trees etc as a kid).  My face almost kisses the floor too.  These 2 guys just happened to see me and yell “hey, you alright” I say and yes as I’m getting up.  They notice my shoes as I get on the elevator and proceed to yell to me “it’s them heels, gotta watch them heels, hear me it’s them heels” to shut them up I say yes back thinking the whole time “I’ve worn this for 4 years and this has never happened so shut the **** up”  My right knee didn’t bruse as bad as I thought it would but my left foot/ankle/lower shin/lower calf all are very uncomfortable now and it’s sort of hard to put all of my weight (if  I weighed less it might not be so hard) on it so all day at work I’ve kept my shoes off and have only put them on to go down the hallway outside of the office to go to the bathroom.  I don’t think it’s swollen just uncomfortable and throbbing a little bit.  Not doing any cardio today and I was so looking forward to doing a half hour of spinning.  Oh well, next Wednesday for spinning.  Tomorrow’s gonna stink, there’s a heavy snow warning from 7 am till 7 pm so that means I have to get up earlier so we can leave earlier if it’s snowing and tonite we won’t be home till after midnight cuz it’s a bowling nite (see I dislike Thursdays blog).  I’ve complained enough.  Have to go try to walk a little bit, can’t sit here no more.

I dislike Thursdays

Between the beginning of September and end of April I dislike Thursdays.  My fiance bowls Wednesday nights and because we go into work together (we only have one vehicle and we both work in the city) I have to go bowling with him every Wednesday (Friday too but that’s no big deal because there’s no work Saturday).  He doesn’t start until 8:00 p.m. and finishes around 11:00 p.m.  When I get my bowling average above 100 on a consistent basis I might join a team on this league, it’s  a “fun” league so they’re not really competitive, except my fiance who only competes against himself.  It’ s almost an hour drive from there to home.  He bought his house before we met so and he wanted out of the city so he moved way out to the country. So Wednesday nights I get about 5 to 5.5 hours of sleep.  We don’t get home till around midnight and then I have to clean kitty litter (unless I’m that tired and just leave it for one day).  I’m not a morning person to begin with and I’m always in bed before 11:00 during the week.  So here on sit on a Thursday, tired.  We decided to take Thursday as a rest day and not go the gym since we both are usually so tired but today he has to take his mother to the eye doctor at 4:45 and I don’t get out work until 5:00 so I am going to go to the gym until he calls and says he finished with her.  I will probably go upstairs and do some weights and then a nice walk on the treadmill.  Not looking forward to walking to the gym even though it’s only a couple of blocks from work but it is only 25 degrees outside and with the wind chill it feels like it’s 11 degrees.  We’re right by Lake Erie so we get the freezing wind off of the lake downtown.  Can’t wait to get home tonite and start a fire in the woodburner and I will most likely be in bed no later than 10:30.  Being so tired wouldn’t be so bad if I had work to do.  Sitting here with nothing to do makes it even harder.  I try to find things to do so I have to get up and walk around.  If no one was I here I would be walking around just to walk around and keep moving.  Okay I need to close my eyes for a minute or so.  Have a great day everyone!!

Randomness

Just a bunch of babble.  I’ve been stuck here at 221 lbs for quite some time now.  For now I just want to get to 199 out of the 200’s.  Of course since my father’s passing in October honey and I haven’t exactly been hitting the gym like we should and I get burned out going there day after day that I have to take a week or so off which doesn’t help me any.  I’m getting one of the bedrooms upstairs cleaned out and set up so I can take a tv and dvd player up there and do dvds when I get burned out from the gym.  I do different cardio everytime I there but I still get burned out.  We don’t get home until after 7:00 p.m. when we go there after work.  It’s a 1 hour drive from there (we both work near the gym) to our house.  Oh well, I will survive.  I need to get back into lifting which is what I love more than cardio.

I have my grandson only this weekend which I am looking forward to.  He is on the low spectrum of autisum and he’s an absolute joy to have around.  He’s talking so much better now and he’s actually so smart for his 5 yrs.  On Thanksgiving at my sister’s house he was playing with some toys my brother-in-law got out for him and he wanted the lights on the motorcycles to work like the lights on the helicopter.  My brother-in-law told him the lights don’t light up.  Well a few hours later my grandson bring him the motorcycles with the lights working.  My brother-in-law was totally floored. He thought they didn’t light up but that little professer found out they did.

It’s cold here and we’re expecting snow (YUCK) tomorrow through Friday.  We have a winter weather advisery out where I live so by the time we get home Thursday nite we could have up to a foot of snow.  YUCK, DOUBLE YUCK.  If you can’t tell I hate snow.  I am even born and raised here and I still hate snow and cold.  Mainly the cold, especially the wind chills we have here.  We’re expecting another large load of wood  so that means we will be  unloading the trailer and stacking it in the garage in possible a lot of snow.  YUCK.  I know my fiance will tell me I don’t have to help but I’m the type of person to leave him out there by himself.  Besides I love that physical type of stuff.  It’s better than going to the gym.

Okay lunch is over.  Back to work.

My vacation(?) last week

I had last week off.  It was my last vacation week for the year so I had planned on doing some relaxing etc.  I was gonna get the house work done Saturday and start my vacation(?) Sunday.  Friday night we get home from bowling around 11:30 p.m. and well, I’m starting to get a sore throat.  The PBA (Professional Bowlers Association) is coming to town the week I’m off and we I always end up getting sick the week they’re in town.  Saturday I don’t feel good, don’t do much, but I do help honey unload wood off of the trailer and felt a little better after getting fresh air.  Sunday same thing.  Monday, I must still not have felt good because I don’t even remember it.  Must not have done nothing.  Tuesday I’m half asleep and hear a “thud” outside.  Honey worked Monday and Tuesday we were off so he’s not there.  I jump to look out the window and see SNOW!! YUCK!!!  I think nothing of it thinking snow just fell off the roof.  When I finally drag my butt out of bed and look out the kitchen window I see large branches laying in front of the garage.  Oh, great, heavy wet snow, leaves on the trees, branches coming down on the garage.  I have to go to the garage to get wood for the woodburner but first have to drag the branches out of the way.  In the garage that’s all you can hear is the tree creeking in the wind.  Luckily nothing falls while I’m out there.  I have to keep going out on the porch to clean the snow off of the satellite dish.  The one time I do this is when I was going to go take a shower.  I slip on my boots and I’m wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants.  Go out and clean it off, go to come back in THE DOOR IS LOCKED!! Without realizing it I locked the door and pulled it too far that it shut enough to latch.  Now, I live in the country.  The nearest house is about an 1/8 of a mile away on top of the hill.  If the porch hadn’t been wet I probably would have walked out on it bare foot to clean the dish off.  So off I trounced in the heavey wet snow and wind to the neighbors to the extra key they have or our house.  Thank god she’s home.  I get the key, warm up a little and trounce back home. That was Tuesday.

Wednesday honey and I volunteered to work at the TQR (Tour Qualifying Round) for the PBA Tournament.  This was supposed to be fun I thought.  He was gonna do scoring and I was gonna be a runner, taking the scores to the tournament director.  They had 6 scorers for 36 lanes and 1 runner (me) .  This bowling alley is 58 lanes so it’s rather large.  Each scorer had 3 sets of lanes to watch.  There were 3 bowlers on each lane.  All the scorers had to do was write down the final scores of each game.  (I could have done that, but we were originally told they would be hand scoring).  I had to pick up the scores after game (there was a total of 7 games) and take the sheets to the office.  I was on my feet going back and forth non-stop for 4 hours.  Nice workout but no time to stop and rest or get a drink.  No lunch, didn’t feel good, throat hurt.  By the time the 7th game was over I was so dehydrated I thought I was gonna pass out.  I sat down and honey got me a bottle of water.  Never made it to the gym of course, I felt ill the rest of the day.  We did however spend an hour or so at the mall just walking around (slowly) because we had a time to kill before we went to dinner and he bowled in his league that night.

Thursday I was supposed to come into work because my boss had something important he needed done and I’m the only one who knows how to do it.  Wake up in the morning, I ain’t going no where, could barely talk and felt like crap.  Honey tells me not do anything today and just rest.  I even ended up taking nap in the afternoon which I never do.  I was supposed to do more volunteering on Thursday at the tournament.  Nope, have no energy to stay on my feet for 4 hours again.  I got tired just walking from one end of the house to the other.  The only thing I did Thursday was wash some dishes and I didn’t care the house was a mess.  Yup, I’m sick.

Friday, I slept for like 11 hours Thursday night/Friday morning.  Felt much, much better.  I went into work to do what I had to do and then did a little extra cuz I’m like that.  I abosolutely love where I work and he’s nicest guy anyone could ask to work for.  I tell him he doesn’t need to give me anything for coming in.  I’m not a money person.  I dont’ care about money.  I tell him every time I take off if there’s an emergency I will come in .   He’s done so much for me the 16 years I’ve been it’s the least I can do.  After I’m done we go the bowling alley to watch the round of 16.  It was much nicer being a spectator than a volunteer.  If we had had the money we would have gone to the TV Finals on Sunday.

Saturday I make chicken soup and work on the house.  Sunday we did some stuff outside and checked out how many branches did come off the tree from Tuesday.  Since the tree is on the side of the garage hadn’t noticed until we walked towards the back.  There’s a huge branch that will probably have to cut into pieces where it lays.  I dragged the rest out and put them in a pile.

So I’m still a little congested and but it is that time of the year for me and my sinuses.  Haven’t been to the gym in 12 days but between moving and stacking wood and carrying wood into the house and cleaning on Saturday and Sunday and the 4 hours on my feet on Wednesday I got workouts in.  Wednesday I could feel it in my thighs and butt from walking and standing for 4 hours and when I was walking it was a fast paced walk, not leisurely.

Wow, okay, I’ve rambled enough.  If anyone is still awake and followed this thank you.  Have a great week every one.
